Steel Bands...

Solid Steel is a Caribbean steel band featuring some of the finest steel drum players in the UK today. The individual musicians' roots lead directly to the tropical islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Dominica and, principally, Trinidad, the home of the steel drum, arguably the most dynamic new instrument in world music today.

Available as either an instrumental acoustic act or amplified with vocals, they will always play the right material at the right volume whether there are two or twenty in the band. As comfortable performing sophisticated ballads as lively up-tempo tunes, they boast a broad repertoire that encompasses bolero, bossa nova, calypso, cha cha cha, merengue, pop, reggae, salsa, samba and soca.

Big Sand is a very colourful and contemporary steel band, featuring some of the top musicians in the UK.

Big Sand have performed at over 500 weddings, Caribbean parties and corporate functions. They have also performed on a sightseeing bus tour and on moving floats at a number of village festivals. Audiences have enjoyed the pulsating rendition of popular melodies, combined with traditional Caribbean rhythms.

90% of bookings are for their 3-piece outfit. However, they can extend to 4 or 5 players for a more pulsating calypso sound and can also include a limbo dancer.
